Our Techcrunch 50 experience
Some months ago, we applied for early consideration for Techcrunch 50, which gathers the presentation of 50 (52 this year) new products of start-ups, as well as a Demo Pit for other early-stage start-up ideas, as well as working breakfasts and lunches with topics aimed at helping start-ups succeed. For international start-ups like ours, it is very important to be considered for such events, specially because they are free. It is indeed a pity that the Spanish (European) culture does not make it nearby except for some outlayers like Mobile 2.0 Europe organized by dotopen.
We were considered for early consideration and had two interviews with Heather and Jason. Their impression about our products, company, and technology was great, and we were planning to launch our T-Image! there. In fact, the organization sent us an e-mail saying that we were semi-finalists mid-July.
However, after many delays in the final notification, we were out of the stage the day before the organization announced they had made a decision. However, we could have applied for the Demo Pit, which is a one-day space to show your products. Since we were not sure about the ROI, we decided to concentrate on future events both in the USA and in Europe. More time was needed to plan an agenda to meet VCs and potential partners and clients.
Shortly before closing the Demo Pit, Heather wrote us an email saying wonderful things like “I can let you know that Ta With You was considered very aggressively through our final stages of selection. In the end, we needed a balance of different verticals, countries and funded/un-funded companies to have a balanced agenda for the conference. The selection process was extremely competitive this year, and many future successes had to be left on the cutting-room floor. I personally am very interested in the language translation space and was disappointed too“.
We were not surprised that no Spanish company was on stage and only 3scale in the Demo Pit. Hopefully, we will make it next year!
